UPND youths countrywide have demanded for the unconditional release of Katuba MP Jonas Shakafuswa who is reportedly detained in Kaoma for allegedly causing violence.
In a statement to the Watchdog signed by all the provincial youth chairmen in the country, the opposition youth leaders demanded that Shakafuswa, who was injured after being hit with a pestle by a named district commissioner be released so that he can receive medical attention.
And speaking on behalf of the youths, central province youth Chairman Milner Mwanakampwe accused the police of practicing double standards by only receiving a complaint from one person after a fight. Mwanakampwe maintains that Shakafuswa restrained himself from fighting back even after excessive provocation but the police chose to arrest him and leave the main architect of the violence free.
He says that the main reason of arresting Shakafuswa is to create room for PF thugs to intimidate alert voters and allow rigging of the 19th August crucial by election. And Mwanakampwe says the youth leaders will rally behind the lawmaker whom he described as the ‘loud voice against oppression’.
