ZAMBIAN POLITICIANS FACE POSSIBLE US SANCTIONS

The United States government says it will impose sanctions against some political leaders whose conduct has been of concern ahead of the August 12th 2021 general election.
US Embassy Charge d’Affaires David Young says his government is monitoring the election campaigns in Zambia with concerns as some political leaders have continued violating the electoral process.
He says the US government will in the aftermath of the election impose sanctions against the affected individuals.
Mr. Young says his Government can apply Visa restrictions, travel bans and financial sanctions when fundamental Human rights and democratic freedoms are violated.
The US Government is concerned over among other issues political violence, tribal remarks and corruption.
Zambia goes to the polls on August 12th 2021 with over 7 million voters expected to elect the President, Members of Parliament, Mayors and council chairpersons and councillors.
