UTH nurses prepare to resume strike

Nurses at the University Teaching Hospital are currently preparing to go on strike.

The nurses are demanding better pay and improved conditions of service.

This morning (Friday) nurses went round wards telling others to join the strike and warning student-nurses to stay away.

In October this, nurses and midwives and other health worker went on strike for almost three weeks to press for better pay but nothing happened.

For the sake of patients and to give government time to work on the demands, health work suspended their strike.

But government did nothing and the health workers are still getting the same peanuts and working in unsanitary conditions sometimes without protective clothing.

Just at the same time nurses were striking, president Michael Sata increased his salary again for the third time within two years.
