She was last seen alive arguing with Son of government chief whip Vernon Mwanga in the evening. In the morning, her body was found floating in a swimming pool.
A mysterious death in Lusaka’s Kalundu area is currently haunting residents of this normally quiet residential area.
On Thursday 11th November, 2010, a body of young woman was found floating in a swimming pool at a house that has been turned into a boarding house for students of the university of Zambia (UNZA).
Due to the critical shortage of accommodation at what is supposed to be the most prestigious learning institution in Zambia, a lot of houses in the surrounding neighborhoods including Kalundu have been turned into boarding houses for students who are paying extremely high fees for a bed space.
The young woman who died has been identified as Chanda Chilufya, a fourth year student at the University of Zambia. She was 23 years old.
Police sources have said that she was last seen alive on Wednesday 10th arguing with Mainga Mwaanga, son of government parliamentary Chief Whip Vernon Mwaanga.
The police are careful with what they say and are trying to keep it from leaking to the media for fear of triggering an investigation on Mainga.
