We are on auto-pilot because of weak constitution- Tayali

The Zambian Voice has observed that with the current constitution that gives too much power to the Head of State it is possible for government to run on auto-pilot.

Executive Director Chilufya Tayali says this is because with such powers the country’s President cannot be questioned whether he reports for work or not.

Tayali says this is why his organization holds the position that such excessive powers the President has should be reduced.

He has told Qfm news in an interview that his organization is also of the view that the Head of State is supposed to been seen working on a day to day basis and that people in the country are supposed to know when he has not gone for work.

Tayali says in view of the fact that President Michael Sata has not shown to the Zambian people that he is working, his organization suspects that he is getting a salary for doing nothing.

But the President’s Special Assistant for Press and Public Relations, George Chellah has told Qfm news in a separate interview that the Zambian Voice’s observations do not deserve a reaction from State House.

Chellah says this is because he does not think Mr.Tayali’s sentiments deserve to be taken seriously nor given the dignity for a response from the President’s office.

He says State House however respects Mr. Tayali’s opinion.
