Luanshya residents and youths have apologized to UPND President Hakainde Hichilema for voting for President Michael Sata and the Patriotic Front in the 2011 elections.

Some residents and youths who knelt down at a rally addressed by the UPND in Justine Kabwe Ward in Mpatamatu Luanshya yesterday, said they regret having voted for the PF and asked for forgiveness from Hichilema.

And responding to the youths, Mr. Hichilema said Jesus Christ said people should forgive each other 70 times 70 and saw no reason for not doing the same. He however cautioned the youths to vote wisely next time.

Meanwhile, Mr. Hichilema has offered to pay legal expenses for 1200 people who participated in the re-opening of the Mulyanshi mine but dumped. This was after some people complained at the same rally that the PF promised to employ them on full time after the re-opening of the mine but instead they have been retrenched.

Mr. Hichilema said the mine owners and the government entered into a verbal agreement with the miners hence the need for all parties to honor the agreement. He advised the aggrieved former employees to seek legal representation that he will personally pay for.

And Mr. Hichilema told the gathering that people voted the MMD out of power because they were told Mealie-meal will cost less than K30,000 and that transport costs will be reduced.

“You voted for PF because they promised you free education, cheaper transport costs and Mealie-Meal but the opposite is the obtaining situation” Hichilema said to a cheering crowd.

Mr. Hichilema also received complaints from representatives of Taxi drivers who complained about the continued harassment from Traffic Police officers for six months now. Mr. Hichilema said the PF promised that the slave and harsh conditions in Chinese companies would stop but he has received that it has actually become worse.

Mr. Hichilema was on the Copperbelt where he also watched the Zambia match with Lesotho and toured Chisokone market where he received a thunderous welcome
