The Drug Enforcement Commission has arrested a 25 year old businesswoman for drug trafficking.
Elizabeth Turner Mtonga was arrested from the Lusaka magistrate court after she accidentally dropped a packet of Ephedrine inside the courtroom from her handbag, said DEC spokeperson John Nyawali.
Mtonga, a resident of Chilenje had gone to the Magistrate court to attend a court session for one of her friends but accidentally dropped a packet of white powder which was discovered to be ephedrine after subjecting the substance to a laboratory test.
And Nyawali says 88 people were arrested in the last six days for trafficking in various quantities of crack cocaine and cannabis with a total weight of 88 kilograms.
Among those arrested is Godfrey Mbasela, a resident of Riverside in Kitwe was arrested from an entertainment spot when he tried to sale a sachet of crack cocaine to some people.
Others arrested in Lusaka is John Simango, 24, who was found with two sachets of cocaine which were hidden in his jacket.
According to Nyawali, the shift to trafficking drugs in sachets is an indicator that the streets of Lusaka and Copperbelt are flooded with illicit drugs which are likely to cause child delinquency, theft and violence to be on the increase in the country.
