The Kabwe Magistrates court has jailed Pascallina Njovu Chanda for five years simple imprisonment for obtaining money from nine people under pretence that she had a house for rent when not.

In separate appearances before Magistrates Simaanya Mwaba and Temwaninge Mhango, 35 year old Chanda pleaded guilty to nine counts involving a total of K35,500 form nine different people between June and July this year.

The prosecution established that Chanda used to advertise her matrimonial house for rent and when people showed up she would lie that the house would be vacant after four or five days when not. She told the court that she did not have any house to rent out and that the house in question belongs to her husband in Kabwe’s Highridge area.

Magistrate Simaanya Mwaba handed her three consecutive years in jail (to serve one year in full then another), while Magistrate Mhango gave her two years concurrent (to run at same time) sentences.
