A Lusaka High Court has upheld the decision by the Zambian government to deregister the Southern African Centre for the Constructive Resolution of Conflict (SACCORD)
In 2004, then minister of home affairs Ronnie Shikapwasha deregistered SACCORD saying the organisation’s continued existence was inimical to the security of Zambia.
SACCORD however sought court intervention, arguing that the minister’s action was arbitrary and against the principles of democracy.
But Thursday, Justice Florence Lengalenga upheld the decision made by government.
She said government action action was not malicious.
She said the government was free to carry out the full de-registration of the organisation.
