Publish and don’t bother hiding my I D.
Youth Development Association executive director
(the sick person in the photo below) shamelessly took the stand with pride and announced that the blocking of social media in Zambia wouldn’t be a bad idea and that his organisation had plans to petition the government to block Facebook and other sites stating that they need a fresh start.
It doesn’t have to take a genius for us to know that they reason for such calls is to eliminate the Zambian watchdog because over the time it has exposed with valid evidence the happenings in our government. Ba Mathews went on further to display his shallow thinking by saying the youth will reduce on gossiping seriously!!
We expect people of his calibre to exhibit foresight in all aspects considering it is the reason they were elected into office. Its is embarrassing that even when the chaotic political scene and freedom of expression is under threat, the YDA can think of such a petition. They should have thought of the reason why people are now resorting to online media. Our leaders have been arrested for airing out opinions against the government. Others have even been arrested right inside a radio station. Last time I checked, we were a democratic nation and had an opposition whose function was to check and balance the government of the day..!
It is wrong, I illiterate and dull for the association to advocate for such a move. We are disappointed and ashamed on their behalf.
