Zambezi Portland Cement Company Limited has hiked the price of cement by 11 percent with effect from Monday next week.
Company official Peter Kang’ombe said the move to hike the price of the commodities comes in the awake of the increase in diesel
“As you may know the price of diesel by 24 percent, so as a company we have nothing to do but to hike the price of cement,” Mr Kang’ombe said.
Mr Kang’ombe said the increment is with effect from next week Monday.
He has also revealed that cement is on high demend saying that the firm has since its production from 1000 tonnes per day to 1400 tonnes.
Meanwhile a check at some outlets on the Copperbelt province found some traders already selling the commodity at between KR60.00 and K70.00 respectively.
Previously the price of cement was going at between K50.00 and K55.
“This is what exactly we wondered, we are now going to feel the pain of voting for the PF,” said one of the traders, Doreen Banda.
She appealed to the PF government to consider putting up mechanisms that will ensure that prices of essential commodities do not skylocate following the removing of subsidies on fuel and food.
