Zambezi Portland owes ZRA KR353m, given 7 days ultimatum

ZAMBEZI Portland Cement owes the Zambia Revenue Authority KR353 million (K353 billion) for various tax offences committed in the past three years.

The ZRA has since served the company with a demand notice for the immediate settlement of the staggering amount.
And the company has been sued by the Leasing Finance Company for alleged failure to settle a loan obligation of US$1.5 million (about KR7.5 million).
Zambezi Portland interim chief executive officer Andrew Kamanga said in a statement yesterday that the payment to the ZRA “must be made within 30 days”.
Mr Kamanga said the tax offences include submission of false returns, false declarations, lack of valid export acquittals, non-payment of taxes on directors’ remuneration and failure to pay mineral royalties.
The offences, Mr Kamanga said, were committed from November 2009 to October 31, 2012 by the previous management.
Zambezi Portland operations director Daniela Ventriglia was deported to Italy by the immigration department for being “a danger to the peace of the country” in November last year.
Mr Kamanga said the company has not prepared audited financial statements in the last five years.
Mr Kamanga said the Leasing Finance Company has sued Zambezi Portland and its former directors for alleged failure to settle a US$1.5 million loan.
He also said the Eastern and Southern Africa Trade and Development Bank (PTA Bank) is owed huge amounts in loans for project financing, which need to be serviced.
“Going forward, ZPCL [Zambezi Portland Cement Limited] recognises its strategic importance to the economic and social development of Zambia and remains committed to satisfying all its obligations.
“While the company’s legal counsel is handing all on-going legal issues, management is determined to maintain and motivate its pool of well-qualified and experienced staff for higher productivity to meet the demands of the local market,” Mr Kamanga said.
He said management is focused on ensuring the company is well-positioned to play its critical role in Zambia’s social and economic development by meeting all its tax and other statutory obligations.
He said the company will strive to satisfy the existing customers and new customers, and that bank accounts have been opened in which customers can deposit money for products they buy from the company.
The company has also suspended export sales until the local market is fully serviced, Mr Kamanga said.
On the labour force, Mr Kamanga said all employees have been maintained except Mwamba Kayula, Gomely Litana and James Litwai whose contracts were terminated on December 24, 2012.
“We appeal to our customers and business partners not to deal with these individuals as they no longer represent the company,” he said.
He also dispelled assertions that the company has not been running smoothly, saying operations have been at full capacity apart from the five days when there were routine maintenance works from December 28, 2012 to January 2, 2013.

@LOCONINO, did you know that Kamanga Andrew is the sole proprietor of Northwestern Energy Corporation, ask any guy who works in Lumwana about it.
Do you also know that he owns Enfin Solutions, a financial and Energy Advisory Firm? If you think he is as finished as you are then you are mistaken.
Do you also know that since its inception( Zambezi Portland) he was the one who did financial and environmental planing for that company? In fact this position has just overstretched him because he has a lot of pending projects in the mining sector, so before you people yawn against him, find out who the guy is. He is a prominent intellectual and not an opportunist as perceived by others. He has not gone there to steal but basically to serve the interest of the company and of the nation at large.

What happened to your other “successful” business ventures Kamanga ? Went belly up and now you are looking for an easy way to rehabilitate yourself ? Can’t keep all those posh vehicles that you were buying every six months (possibly with borrowed money) on the road ? Why not just become a male prostitute ? Wouldn’t be any different to what you are now.

Mediocrity, Shere-Ignorance, Ridiculousness, Backwardness en Full Blown Illiteracy coupled with mad-dullness is but wats being pepetauted here. Its quite sad en vividly unbelievable to even think that even an importantly or rather integral part of the government as ZRA can come out in the open uttering these fabricated insinuations with outright impudence without foreseeing its implications thereafter. any well-meaning and logical being would be perturbed with the figures that ZRA says its bein owed by this local humble company from ndola which by far cannot be seen becoming an international company to owe ZRA all that money when the same company was built on a budget of a half the same figures ZRA says it owes it which same company began operations not later than four to five years back en surprisingly the same company is supposed to clear its project finance loan with the same five years its been operating. now one wonders as to how ZRA could be owed those figures in half the years the company is supposed to clear its loan which is half the amount of money ZRA is owed in 3 years. something is really gone wrong here here and if left unchecked people of zambia, we are headed for DOOM, people we entrusted to take control of the reigns of our nation are nothing but nothing “dimwits” they got no vision, no focus en hence we are headed for a System Breakdown soon if nothing is done and swiftly. Lets continue to educate these minions in leadership and give em checks and balances en most of all LETS SEND A SERIOUS MASSAGE TO THEM THAT THEY SHOULDNT THINK WE ARE NOT SEEING WHATS GOIN ON, WE ARE TAKING STOCK OF EVERYTHING HAPPENING AND LET EM NOT TAKE US FOR WEAKLINGS AS WE ARE PREPARED TO RISE UP ANY MOMENT SHOULD THEY CONTINUE TO PULL OUR HANDS THANKS TO THE “PAMAKA SLOGAN” EN WE ARE READY TO DO THAT. Zambia belongs to Zambians en not a small groups of skelems who think they are politicians, they think so because people make them do brake them. LONG LIVE ZAMBIA

Has ZPC been taken over by the Goverment ? why all that protection from Zambia Police? Who are they so afraid of ? Why is Mahtani using all this protection ? What has he got to hide? President Sata why are you waisting goverment money with all these Police ? Not forget that the Ventriglias were deported, why be so afraid?
I think this is just a new way of Nationalisation under dictatorship.
Sata has Nationalised ZPC 100% , but why not state it officially? He is the Boss of Zambia.
