Zambia has no capacity to manufacture ARVs

Government has no intention of starting to manufacture Anti-Retro-Viral Drugs locally because the country has no capacity to carry out the undertaking.

Health Minister, Kapembwa Simbao, says Zambia is not able to meet standards required by the World Health Organisation-WHO.

He says ARVs require quality handling and care during the manufacturing process and Zambia has no capacity to meet this requirement.

However, Mr. Simbao told ZNBC news in an interview that ARVs are affordable and his Ministry has sufficient stocks to meet demand across the country.
