Zambia’s selected PGA golfer says success has come at great cost
Zambia Golf Union failed to sponsor him or offer him scholarship opportunities.
He struggled on his own and went to the USA, worked on odd jobs to survive but remained focused on his pursuit of the golf dream.
Today he is been admitted to the PGA and will play with the likes of Tiger Woods, Dustin Johnson Justin Thomas Jon Rahm, Jordan Spieth, Justin Rose Rickie Fowler, Rory McIlroy, Hideki Matsuyama and others.
Vincent Kabaso wrote;
“20 years ago, I told my dad that I will be a golf professional and make it into the PGA of America. 12 years ago, this dream separated me from my family.”
“I attended schools I could not afford and got kicked out.. I have missed a lot of family events and funerals including those of my grandparents”
“The number of times I have spoken through the phone with my 5 sisters and two brothers, are more than I have physically seen them”.
“I did not have a role model, because nobody from Zambia had ever done this. Dad is my number one 1 fan, but I still have to explain to him, what adding these three letters to my name means. The pain on this journey has been a nightmare I cannot wish on my enemy.”
“To stand here today is a miracle I do not personally deserve, except seen through the eyes of Almighty Christ, the great orchestrator of time and life itself.”
” Allow me to share this moment with all young men and women who are determined to make something out their lives. I especially share it with the African child whose talent alone, is not enough to get them to their goals. I share it especially too, with all minorities breaking barriers and shining our best light.
