Zambia narrowly beat Uganda

Zambia could only manage to beat Uganda 1-0 this afternoon in the first leg of African qualifiers to be held in South Africa next year.

The lone goal was scored by Christopher Katongo in the first half.

Uganda would have equalised in the second half had it not been for a good save by Zambian goal minder Kennedy Mweene.

Zambia missed too many scoring opportunities that may cost them heavily in the return match in Uganda, Kampala in October.

Zambia are the current champions and have to ensure a good result in Uganda for them to have a chance to defend the cup.

Uganda are no push overs as they managed to over-turn a 4-1 loss in Congo Brazaville by beating them 4-0 in a return match in Uganda for them to reach this stage of the competition.
