Zambia ruling party sends supporters to protest in SA

The Zambian High Commission in South Africa is currently transporting ruling party supporters to go and conduct a parallel demonstration in Pretoria on Monday.

The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA) is scheduled to picket the Zambian High Commission in Pretoria on Monday over the continued detention and later transfer of Hakainde Hichilema to Mukobeko Maximum prison.

In a statement, NUMSA said it will stage a picket outside the Zambian Embassy on Monday, the 19th of June 2017.

But the Zambian government has released unclosed sums of money to counter the picketing by the South Africans.

A source told the Watchdog that four busses loaded with PF cadres left Zambia on Saturday for Johannesburg with the sole the purpose of going to hold a counter demonstration.

The source said that some ruling party supporters are being flown into South Africa.

‘We have funded our PF wing in South called Association of Zambians living in SA, to bring all the members to the High commission tomorrow and transport refund will be provided,’ one of the mobilisers revealed.
