Zambia Tourism Board says depreciating of Kwacha is good for Zambia

The Zambia Tourism Board (ZTB) says the depreciation of the Kwacha is an opportunity for the tourism industry to be competitive on the international market.

ZTB Managing Director Felix Chaila says Zambia is regarded to be an expensive destination on the international market and the fall of the Kwacha will attract a lot of tourists to come to the country.
Mr. Chaila says this will allow Zambia to compete with neighbouring countries which are considered as cheap destinations on the global market.
He told ZANIS in an interview in Lusaka today that a lot of lodges and hotels use the US Dollar to charge clients and the depreciation of Kwacha does not affect them.
Mr. Chaila has also emphasized that despite the depreciation of the kwacha being an opportunity for the country to attract tourists in the country; it is the hope of the board that the local currency will soon stabilize.
He stated that a lot of businesses have been affected by the fall of the kwacha and called for the identification of ways of stabilizing the currency to maintain the stability of the national economy.
