Zambian arrested at Heathrow Airport

A 37 year old Zambian national has been arrested at the Heathrow International airport in the United Kingdom for drug trafficking.

Owen Mushabati Hambulo, a university student in Frankfurt, Germany was found with 45 kilograms of compressed cannabis, according to information by the Zambia Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC).

DEC Public relations Manager John Nyawali says Hambulo was coming from Zambia en route to his base in Germany when he was arrested.

He said investigations have shown that Hambulo left Zambia through the Lusaka International Airport aboard Ethiopian Airline flight number ET 873 and connected from Ethiopia to London with the same airline flight number ET 710.

He is currently detained in London awaiting trial.

This brings the number of Zambian nationals arrested abroad in the last six months for various drug offences to eight.

Meanwhile, 24 students of Mungwi Technical School in Northern Province have been committed to the Drug Enforcement Commission for counseling following a sequence of drug abuse activities.

The 24, who mainly comprise of grade 10 pupils have since been sent away from school and will only be re-admitted upon completion of their counseling sessions.
