MTN FAZ Super League champions Zanaco will play host to Zimbabwe Premiership Soccer League champions, CAPS United as well as the two 2016 CAF inter-club champions, Mamelodi Sundowns and TP Mazembe in friendly matches to be played at Nkoloma Stadium between 29 January and 4 February.
According to the fixture program announced by Zanaco, the first match will be against CAPS United on Sunday, January 29. The Zimbabwean side fondly known to its fans as ‘Amakapakapa’ arrived in Lusaka on Friday morning.
The match with CAF Champions League winners Mamelodi Sundowns is scheduled for Wednesday, February 1.
The third friendly match will be played against CAF Confederation Cup champions TP Mazembe on Saturday, February 4.
The Zambian champions will use the friendly matches to gauge their readiness ahead of the 2017 Caf Champions League preliminary round two-legged tie with Armee Patriotique Rwanda Football Club (APR) of Rwanda.
Zanaco start their continental journey by playing the first leg at home during the weekend of February 10-12 with the second leg taking place seven days later.
The winner of the tie will progress to the first round where they will face the winner of the tie between Ngaya de Mbe (Cameroon) and Young Africans (Tanzania) in mid March.
Under the changed format, CAF have done away with the second round in the champions league which means that first round winners will qualify for the expanded group stage comprised of four groups of four teams each while the losers will drop to the second round of the Caf Confederation Cup which precedes the group stage of the second tier competition.
The top two teams in each group will proceed to the quarter final stage.
