Zambia Electricity Supply Corporation (ZESCO) board chairperson Songowayo Zyambo has been fired.
Ken Konga, the energy minister disclosed Tuesday midday that Zyambo’s contract was revoked two days before Christmas.
He did not give any reasons for the removal of the former Executive Director of Zambia National Farmers Union who has been in office barely a year.
The removal of Zyambo adds to the confusion at the country’s power utility monopoly as it has no substantive Chief Executive.
On 3 July 2009, Zesco appointed one Dr. Lemba Nyirenda as Managing Director.
The nation was told three months later by Zyambo that the the board and Nyirenda could not agree on the contract so Nyirenda walked away.
The position has been filled ever since.
Minister Konga today advised the remaining board to quickly fill the position of the Chief Executive Officer of Zesco.
