Zesco qualifies to group stage as Zanaco is ejected

Zesco United has qualified to the group stage of the 2016 Caf Champions League after beating Malian side Stade Malien 5-2 on aggregate after a 2-1 victory at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium on Tuesday afternoon.
Zesco opened the scoring through Jesse Were in the 5th minute before the Malians equalized in the 55th minute through Samake Issaka.
In the 80th minute Maybin Mwaba hit the back of the net from close range after receiving a pass from Idris Mbombo.
In the 78th minute Clatous Chama missed the target from close range after he was set up by hardworking Idris Ilunga Mbombo.
Malian player Samake Issaka was red carded in the 89th minute for unsporting behavior.
To reach this far Zesco beat Al Ghazala Wau 3-0 and went on the beat AC Horoya 4-3 before dispatching Stade Malien 5-2.
Meanwhile Zambia’s representatives in the Confederation Cup Zanaco have been knocked out after they were beaten 4-1 on aggregate after a 3-0 bashing by Stade Gabesien of Tunisia.
Zanaco played to a 1 all draw when they faced the Tunisians on 9th April at Lusaka’s Nkoloma Stadium.
