Zesco United switches attention to CAF Champions League

Zesco United have switched their attention to this weekend’s ‪‎CAF Champions League‬ match against second placed Asec Mimosa of Ivory Coast.
Zesco who led the group after first group games was dislodged by current table toppers Wydad Casablanca of Morocco after they beat Zesco United via a 2-0 score line in match day 2 that saw the Moroccans shoot to the summit of the group leaving Zesco to occupy 3rd slot after Asec Mimosa shocked Al Ahly SC at their backyard with a 2-1 win to push Zesco to second spot on goal difference.
Zesco United were trying to play catch up with the domestic league but unfortunately could only amass 5 points from a possible 9 against Red Arrows, Green Buffaloes and Mufulira wanderers with the last two being 1 all stalemates whilst they beat the airmen 2-0.
With just one more game in hand to reach 17 games, Zesco’s hopes of equalling Zanaco’s points has faltered and now they can only reach 36 points if they beat stubborn Nakambala Leopards in Mazabuka.
Meanwhile Zesco’s week 18 fixture against Lumwana Radiants has since been postponed due to their involvement in the Caf games this weekend. Coincidentally the week 1 match which was against the same opponents was also rescheduled.
Zesco United have Jesse Jackson Were to rely on for goals as well as recently resuscitated Jackson Mwanza who has performed well in the recent games in the absence of Idriss Mbombo.
Idriss Mbombo will also be available for selection as Zesco look to capitalize on home advantage to go level with Wydad Casablanca.
