Three ZESCO employees have been severely burnt and are battling for their lives in Mazabuka.
The three were trying to switch on power at a breaker that feeds Monze from Mazabuka when a blast leading to employees being burt occured.
The three were trying to switch on the breaker feeding Monze from Mazabuka Substation during the scheduled maintenance which lasted one day and left both towns in blackout.
The three have been named as Joseph Soko – Area Manager, Jane Manaseh – Electrician and another person only identified as Innocent an Electrician.
Two have been admitted to Zambia Sugar Hospital and one at Mazabuka Main hospital.
Zesco is now a national disastater. Power blackout is as common as unemployement in the country. Just yesterday, the main airport in Zambia was plunged into darkness for eight hours.
At the same time, in the southern part of the country, ZESCO plunged the towns of Monze and Mazabuka in total darkness.
