ZICTA officials give themselves heft salaries

A salary scandal is looming this time not at the Zambia Railways but at the Zambia Information, Communication and Technology Authority (ZICTA).

According to information reaching the Zambian Watchdog, ZICTA directors have awarded themselves salary increments of between KR 13000 and KR 20000meaning that the Director General Margaret Chalwe Mudenda will be raking in over KR 80,000 per month.

A source said the salary adjustments with effect from this month-end have been approved by Communication, Works and Transport Minister Christopher Yaluma who apparently also responsible for Zambia Railways.

According to information, middle management has been awarded KR10, 000 increment while junior officers have been awarded a meager KR1000 increment.

According to a source from the Anti- Corruption Commission it was difficult to find out why Professor Clive Chirwa a renowned Professor can be vilified for demanding for a huge salary when simple not very qualified directors at ZICTA can be getting that much.

“It is really difficult for us to do our work. Imagine they tell us to investigate the alleged extravagance of Professor Chirwa when the same Minister approves a huge salary increment for mainly PF cadres at ZICTA” the source said.
