Government has no plans to privatise the three government owned media institutions.
Information and Broadcasting Services Permanent Secretary SAM PHIRI says Times of Zambia, Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation -ZNBC- and Daily Mail will not be sold.
Dr PHIRI submitted to the parliamentary committee on Information on Thursday that currently, it is not ideal to privitise any of the three institutions.
He says Government has deliberately facilitated the involvement of the private sector in the media and so far several community radio stations, newspapers and television stations have been opened.
Earlier Press Association of Zambia-PAZA Vice President Amos Chanda who appeared before the same committe submitted that Government should release Zambia Daily Mail and the Times of Zambia into private hands.
Mr Chanda said ZNBC should not be privitised but should become a public broadcaster fully funded through parliament.
He said this will help promote a free and fair coverage of all stakeholders.
